Inspiration

Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, literacy isn't, it is something that must be earned . Ruby Bridges is one person who stands out in my eyes as both reformer and someone who fought for their education. She was the first African American student in an entirely Caucasian school and she is truly an inspiration  to those who are cognizant of global illiteracy. A multitude of people around the world have not received a proper education, but after that day in 1960, Ruby Bridges had ensured literacy for children in the generations to follow.

Ruby Bridges was experiencing her childhood when she began altering segregation. As a child, I wanted to impact the world in the same way. Presently, I still find it necessary to somehow impact the world. It is a prerequisite that I attend the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to fulfill this goal.

From the beginning of my academic career, I have been told to pursue my dreams and that there is always room for improvement. I remember my first year in secondary school. For the first semester, I earned a 99.8% average. I regret my reaction to it; instead of pride, I was angry and melancholic. Throughout that  semester, I thought I had reached perfection, the big one hundred that every one wanted. When I asked the class instructor why I got that grade, I received an answer that changed my work ethics. My teacher had simply explained,"There is always room for improvement." This makes me marvel at how much Ruby Bridges has improved the content of so many lives and how she did this without a strong influence. It shows how significant a child can be in history and how much progress it is the catalyst for.

Bridges knew the value of her education and that is what has brought me to try my best in class every day. Furthermore, she is the type of reformer I have a desire to be. However, I want to rid people of their afflictions more than I wish to make the world literate. In front of this desire, however, I currently wish for a chance to evidence that I will be an important asset to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
