Does Patriotism Still Matter?
Patriotism is an essential part of an established country; without it a country would simply be a mammoth prison, full of criminals dying to break out and rarely anyone who enjoys the stony lonesome. Not everyone is a prisoner and everyone may not be a patriotic person, but any resident who cheers for America on July fourth is representing their love and support for the U.S. Although patriotism in the United States has been altered significantly, patriotism stills matters.
Democracy is one of the reasons a majority of, if not all, the eligible voters, should be satisfied of the country's position and be proud of its leader. Another example of patriotism is when countries compete against each other and someone from America supports this country. If there was no patriotism, the country could fall apart at the hinges and lose its stability. The inhabitants of the country may no longer have liberty, and various other rights which they deserve.
Among some of the rights we might have never earned or known the value of, the first three rights stated in the Declaration of Independence are what numerous people consider the most important. If it weren't important, this declaration would never been written, and therefore, there might have never been an independent country like the one we live in. If patriotism didn't matter then, America would still be a distant part of England. If patriotism didn't matter, we wouldn't have to practice loving our country so early into our lives. Every day in the school week, students are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning, compelled to put our hands over our hearts and to face toward the flag, which is put in a designated area in the room. Truthfully, I believe no one finds this annoying; it's a procedure which all students are accustomed to. Another reason patriotism matters is because of Social Studies! Would this exist without patriotism? This count for other countries, if its citizens did not have patriotism, several events which led to their independence may have not occurred; just as America fought against the Hessian during the American Revolution, European countries fought against the Nazis during World War II.
Military officers are also among several patriots who express their patriotism by putting their lives at stake. If patriotism does not hold importance, then there wouldn't be anyone fighting for these countries. Furthermore, if patriotism mattered years ago when America was fighting its previous wars, why shouldn't it now. It still matters, and it always will.
